September 18, 2017 (Holmdel, NJ) – Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) Health Group announced today new appointments to its senior leadership team that will help advance nationally-focused initiatives and deliver high-quality post-acute health care services.

Teresa Lee, JD, MPH was appointed as Chief Government Affairs Officer and Vice President of Foundation Relations and Ami Sparano, JD, MS, OTR/L was appointed as Corporate Compliance Officer and HIPAA Privacy Officer.

“VNA Health Group’s recent expansion to Ohio has accelerated efforts to advance our proven post-acute care model beyond New Jersey and Teresa and Ami have valuable expertise in highly-effective, national health care delivery systems,” said Steven Landers, President and Chief Executive Officer of VNA Health Group. “Teresa will be housed in the Washington D.C. area to lead efforts to engage lawmakers and payers on critical health issues facing older Americans and other vulnerable populations as well as to boost efforts for private foundation and public funding of our initiatives and Institutes. Ami will lead efforts to train employees and medical staff in key components of regulatory compliance and quality care,” said Dr. Landers.

Ms. Lee was previously Executive Director of the Alliance for Home Health Quality and Innovation based in Arlington, VA, where she oversaw national research and education for post-acute care and worked with policy-makers, payers, providers, patients, and caregivers to improve health care at home through quality and innovation. She serves on the editorial board of the health journal, Home Health Care Management and Practice. Ms. Lee earned a Master’s in Public Health from Harvard University, School of Public Health and a law degree from George Washington University.

“For the past several years, I have had the opportunity work closely with Dr. Landers on the “Future of Home Health” research-based strategic planning project and am looking forward to advancing the findings of this project directly on behalf of VNA Health Group. Much of my focus will be working to improve understanding of how post-acute care home-based services offer a more humane and cost-effective way to care for American’s seniors, individuals with disabilities or those with multiple chronic illnesses. In addition, I will work to secure additional financial resources to advance research and outcome-based initiatives within VNA Health Group’s Advanced Care Institute, Children and Family Health Institute and Connected Health Institute,” said Ms. Lee.

Previously, Ms. Sparano was Director of Quality Assurance and Risk Management at Health South Rehabilitation Hospital in Tinton Falls. There she oversaw the hospital’s operational performance of clinical quality outcomes and regulatory compliance training and served as the hospital’s Patient Safety Officer and Privacy Officer ensuring compliance with regulatory standards with CMS, HIPAA and accreditation bodies. Ms. Sparano earned a specialty in health law degree from Widener University School of Law and a Masters in Occupational Therapy from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.

“’The continued uncertainties with health care reform and evolving priorities directed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requires that health care organizations remain on alert to regulatory changes that could affect quality care. I look forward to working with VNA Health Group’s leadership and staff to ensure our enduring commitment to delivering the highest quality patient-centered care,” said Ms. Sparano.
