VNA Health Group Seasons of Hope Adopt-a-Family Program a record-breaking success

Tuesday, January 8, 2013

VNA Health Group announced today that this year’s Seasons of Hope Adopt-a-Family Program provided food, clothing and holiday gifts to more than 600 hundred families and children in need throughout the State of New Jersey.
For more than 15 years during the holiday season, VNA Health Group has reached out to generous donors, VNA staff, and the community to support the “Seasons of Hope” program for patients and their families who are in especially difficult circumstances.  VNA patient families include small children, single moms, patients at end of life, elderly isolated seniors, and adults and children with special needs.  This year, it also included many whose lives and homes were impacted by Hurricane Sandy.  The families helped were in need of life’s most basic essentials – food, clothing, and toys for children.  Many contributions included gift cards from large retailers and local grocery stores.  A team of extraordinary VNA volunteers donated their time weeks before the holiday to shop, sort, wrap, and distribute hundreds of items based on family needs.

“We continue to be in awe of the generosity of this community,” stated Bridget Murphy, VNA Health Group chief philanthropy officer. “But I cannot say enough about the work that a small team of VNA volunteers and dedicated staff did to pull it all together and to ensure that every family in need, senior and child received a gift.  No one went without, it was an incredible effort.”

The program is coordinated by the VNA Manager of Volunteers, Pauline DePalma, BSW. Many of the volunteers donate their time on a regular basis to the VNA Hospice Program providing office support, making ‘comfort’ calls, offering respite for caregivers and companionship for patients.  The dedicated commitment of this group has been recognized by organizations such as the United Way, the Volunteer Center of Monmouth County, the Monmouth Park Charity Fund, and the New Jersey Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.
