Visiting Nurse Association Health Group (VNAHG) announced the award of the annual Marcia Granucci Memorial Scholarship Fund to Cheryl L. Goodlow, RN, of Long Branch and Jody-Lynne Nicole Austin, RN, of Pennsauken. The scholarship fund was created to continue the professional legacy of its namesake, Marcia Granucci, who developed a community-based mental health program at VNA Health Group. Each year, scholarships are awarded to two New Jersey residents pursuing graduate degrees in mental health, community health, family health or clinical leadership, and are determined by the Marcia Granucci Scholarship Committee, chaired by Michael Granucci, of Manasquan.
Cheryl Lynn Goodlow is a VNAHG working Home Care Intake Coordinator at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold, NJ, a role she has held with VNAHG for the last 9 years. She is currently enrolled in a graduate nursing program at Monmouth University and plans to continue her education to become a Family Nurse Practitioner.
Jody-Lynne Nicole Austin is a graduate nursing student at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, (UMDNJ) School of Nursing. An army veteran and co-founder of "We Feed the Homeless Philly," a Philadelphia based non-profit focused on hunger relief, Austin's goal is to be an Advanced Practice Nurse educator, mentor, researcher and advocate for minority nurses.
"Selecting two individuals from so many outstanding applicants is always difficult," stated Marjorie Forgang, VNAHG Chief Nursing Officer and a member of the scholarship committee. "This year, we really feel that both candidates are going to continue on with their education and achieve wonderful accomplishments in the nursing community."
"Both nurses have the finest qualifications and a great passion for community based nursing," said Mr. Granucci, "I am especially proud that we could assist them with their career goals."Visiting Nurse Association Health Group, now celebrating its 100th year of service, is New Jersey's largest community health care provider of home care, hospice, and community based services, caring for more than 120,000 individuals statewide.
