Dr Vincent Zales Honored by the Institute of Nursing

Dr. Vincent A. Zales, of Alpert, Zales and Castro Pediatric Cardiology in Brick, NJ has been awarded the 2011 Apple Award - Acknowledging Physician Partners: A Liaison for Excellence by the New Jersey Institute of Nursing.  The award is presented to physicians who are supportive of nurses and patient advocacy that is the foundation of nursing.  Dr. Zales received the award at the IFN Awards Gala on December 8 at the Hyatt Regency in Princeton, NJ.  
 
Dr. Zales was nominated for the APPLE award by Visiting Nurse Association Health Group where he serves on the Board of Trustees and is Chairman of the VNA Health Group Professional Advisory Council (PAC).  Under his leadership, the PAC is responsible to the VNA Health Group Board of Trustees for advisement on professional issues, review of policies and evaluation of program and services. Dr. Zales is a longtime supporter of VNA nurses and continues to champion the role and the value of advanced practice nurses.
 
 Dr. Zales works closely with the VNA Health Group staff to review quality improvement and outcomes.  “As we address patient needs in the challenging healthcare environment, the nurse will continue to play an increasingly vital role in transitioning care,” stated Mary Ann Christopher, president and CEO at VNA Health Group. “We rely on Dr. Zales for his thoughtful insight and positive affirmation of nursing initiatives that drive the quality of patient outcomes.”  Ms. Christopher added, “We are fortunate to have his guidance and support. He is very deserving of this award.” 
 
Dr. Zales is a graduate of Villa Nova University.  He completed his general pediatric training and pediatric cardiology fellowship at the University of Minnesota Medical School.  Dr. Zales is board-certified in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology.  In prior positions, Dr. Zales served as the Chairman of Pediatric Cardiology at the Deborah Heart and Lung Center and the Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and the Medical Director at the Pediatric Health Transplant Program at the Northwestern University Medical School.  Dr. Zales has a special interest and training in the care of infants and children with complex congenital heart disease. In addition to his work with VNA Health Group, Dr. Zales is a clinical associate professor of Pediatrics at UMDNJ Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
 
Dr. Zales is married with four children and resides in Spring Lake, New Jersey.
